Lone Star Assassins and Bombshells Win

Saturday night, in Mesquite, Texas, a solid offense, and an at-times fearsome defense led the Bombshell Brigade of Assassination City Roller Derby to an 88-53 victory over the Prim Reapers of the Alamo City Rollergirls. In the first game of the night's double-header, the Lone Star Assassins dominated the Deadly Kennedys 110-44 in Assassination City league action. .

The Bombshell Brigade would open up the scoring in the first period with a four-point jam by Harassiz Mine while the home team would shutdown the Prim Reapers. Harassiz Mine would follow up in the third jam with an eight-point jam, while the Bombshells were throwing in a jammer takeout to help limit Prim Reaper Barbara Coa to four points, and the lead had increased to 14-7. Tonya Hurting from the team in San Antonio would counter with a five-point jam in the sixth jam, but Vanna Rockin' would keep it close scoring three points in the jam. In fact, the home team would skate a steady last half of the first period, while occasionally shutting out the team in pink to take a 41-25 lead at halftime.Image

Tonya Hurting would come out in the first jam of the second half scoring four points while the Prims were shutting out the home team. But the Bombshell Brigade would establish total control of the game by having consecutive nine-point jams by Harrasiz Mine and rookie Mona Bruis'r. The lead by the Brigade would be built up to 59-30. A ten-point jam late by Harassiz Mine would seal the game up, as the Bombshells would outscore the Prim Reapers 47-28 in the second half.

Top scorer for the Bombshell Brigades was Harassiz Mine with 43 points. Mona Bruiser would add 23 points for the home team, and Vanna Rockin' would chip in with 17 points for the team in red. All individual scoring is unofficial. Harassiz Mine and Mona Bruis'r would also lead the Bombshell Brigade in blocking with numerous jammer takeouts. Other top blockers for the home team included Claire Voyant, Mary Ate Ashley, and Gloria VanDerBitch.

The top scorers for the Prim Reapers were Tonya Hurting with 24 points, Barbara Coa with 13 points, and Virulent ViV with 10 points. Top blockers for the Prim Reapers included Crash N Burnadette, Shay Manyu, and Bexi Badfish. The Prims skated with only eight skaters, which may have been a factor against the ten-member Bombshell Brigade.

In the first bout of the night, the Lone Star Assassins would start off with a 3-0 lead after the first jam as LSA captain Red Hot Rage scored those three points. The Deadly Kennedys, a team made up of all rookies, rallied back to actually take the lead in the sixth jam of the game, as Brandy Danger would score 2 points for a 15-14 advantage. But that was the last lead of the night for the rookies as the Lone Stars would score a seven-point jam from Kernal Angus the eight jam of the half, and end the half with a ten-point jam by Red Hot Rage to go into halftime with a 42-17 point lead.

The LSA's would take advantage of a penalty on the DK's jammer and Kernal Angus would score a 17-0 jam in the second jam of the final period to blow the lead out to a 67-21 margin. Sloan Gunman would score the big jam of the night for the Deadly Kennedys with 11 points in the fifth jam of the period while her team was shutting down the more experienced Lone Star Assassins. But the team in black would counter with a 15-point jam by Red Hot Rage, and two ten-point jams by Arson Elle, and Kernal Angus to add to their margin. Those 35 points allowed the Lone Stars to outscore the rookie team 68-27 in the second half and end the game at a 110-44 score.

ImageLeading scorers for the Lone Star Assassins were Red Hot Rage with 45 points, and Kernal Angus with 39 points. Arson Elle rounded out the double-figure scoring for the LSA's with ten points. All individual scoring is unofficial. Some of the top blockers for the winning team included Mia Hammer, Smack the Ripper, and Eileen Left.

Top scorers for the Deadly Kennedys included Sloan Gunman with 20 points, and Olive Illegal with 15 points. Some of the top blockers for the DK's were Brandi Danger, Nebrass Kicker, Bullet Proof DeeCup, and Luna Bomber.

The next home action for the Assassination City Roller Derby will be August 16 in Mesquite, Texas.
